Whenever I do a portrait session with a family (which is fairly rare), I have a few requirements:

1.) The session must be on location. Life is not lived inside a studio. In home (with a lot of lighting), or at a park (with a lot of lighting/other photo-nerd stuff), lifestyle photography is what I do. If you want stiff, old fashioned studio portraits, there are so many others who can provide that for so much less…

2.) Have fun. I have had a few people call and sound as if they’re making their yearly doctor appointments. No. No. No. I don’t specialize in those kind of shoots either. If you can’t have fun and enjoy the lasting memories that you will be making along side your family, there are many other photographers out there who can and will make you look absolutely constipated/miserable in your photographs. I’d prefer not to be one of them…

That being said; this family had a great time! This style of photography isn’t for everyone, as it includes a mix of candid shots, formal set ups, and many instances of “oh my gosh let’s climb this tree”. So if you’re afraid of walking, getting a little bit wrinkled or having a hair out of place… please don’t call (it’s nothing personal)…
